Is there anything you feel too old to do anymore?
A few years ago, when my kids were quite little, my in-laws took my family to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. We were pumped! We don’t get to do very many vacations, so when we were given this opportunity to visit an amusement park, we were really excited. We took all of the requisite photos as you entered the park, where the kids stood up next to the signs that looked like candy bars – to see how tall they were at the time. It was super cute!

Of course, you don’t go to an amusement park like Hershey Park and not ride any rides. But, unfortunately, the first ride we went on was the Scrambler.

The Scrambler, I soon discovered, was named very appropriately. It’s one of those rides that spins you around, not just in a circle, but around a secondary axis. It’s literally making my stomach hurt just writing this. So, you’re spinning, spinning, spinning, and by the end of the ride, you’re so disoriented, you can barely stand. Sounds like fun, right?
I thought I could do it. I was wrong.

Riding the Scrambler at Hershey Park made me feel so sick that it really set the tone for me for the rest of the day. I was bummed. I was just a few months into being a spry 30-year-old, and here I learn that I can no longer enjoy spinning amusement park rides. It was at this moment that I felt old for the first time.

Ten years later, I hardly think of 30 as being old, but that moment was a turning point for me. I knew that I would never be the same again.
Thank you, Lord; I can still ride rollercoasters, but no more spinning rides for me. I’m too old for that.

Despite the fact that I was trying hard not to hurl, the kids still had a blast, and we created some fun memories that will last a lifetime.
