The Nutcracker Trilogy
The Nutcracker Trilogy is the story of the wizard Drosselmeyer. The full trilogy is available in paperback directly from Paul Thompson’s website (this is the best way to support the author). Books one (The Curse of the Rat King) and two (The Watcher’s Realm) are available on Audible. The paperback and Kindle editions of all three books are available on Amazon.

The Watcher’s Realm
by Paul Thompson
Synposis
Several years have now passed since Fritz defeated the Rat King, and in the process, imprisoned his friends and loved one in a celestine. He has read and studied every book in the library, and nowhere can he find the answer to setting them free.
Meanwhile, the Central Kingdom is not only stockpiling gold, they are actively and forceably taking it from every one of its citizens. But why? Since gold has no known magical value, why would the Czar be so fixated on collecting it?
Fritz is determined to keep his estranged brother, Franz, safe from the increasingly evil influence of the Central Kingdom’s military force, the Central Guard, but using his magic will draw the attention of the Guardians, the strange and powerful creatures that have hidden themselves in plain sight at St. Michael’s for centuries.
With the situation in the Central Kingdom escalating, how long with Fritz be able to stay out of the fight? And will he be able to find the key that unlocks the celestine and releases his friends?
Initial Thoughts
Obvioiusly, I’m biased when it comes The Nutcracker Trilogy, and if you’re reading this and you don’t know why that would be, let me tell you. I was given the great honor of narrating this trilogy, and as of today, December 21, 2022, books one and two are now both available as an audiobook on Audible.
The book covers below are links that will take you to the corresponding book on the Audible website.

The first audiobook became available around Christmas-time in 2021, and here we are, days before Christmas in 2022, and book two is now available! So, needless to say, if you’re looking for a last-second gift for a friend or family member that enjoys reading or listening to audiobooks, check these out.
While the audiobooks are currently only available on Audible, all three of the printed books can be found at www.thenutcrackertrilogy.com. Purchasing them directly from the author’s website is the best way to support him.
I really hope that you’ve had a chance to read or listen to the first book and that you enjoyed it as much as I did. Listen to book two now, and then, hopefully, around this time next year, we’ll have book three ready for you as an audiobook.

Can you believe it’s May already?!
You may have seen a notification from me elsewhere explaining that I’ll soon be focusing (nearly) exclusively on my Substack content. I am truly grateful to everyone who has been following my journey here on WordPress over the past couple of years. I would be honored if you would head over to davidsheley.substack.com and subscribe to my newsletter. Initially, it will be the same content as you see here, but as I make the transition, I will allow my WordPress site to fade into the background as my Substack publications come online. If you’d like to know more about what this Substack stuff is all about, drop me a comment, and I’d be happy to tell you more.
The Nutcracker Trilogy

I will continue to shamelessly promote these books because I’m so excited about being a small part of Drosselmeyer’s journey. If you’re new here, let me encourage you to check out The Nutcracker Trilogy by Paul Thompson. All three books are available in print and as e-books. Books one and two are available as audiobooks, narrated by yours truly. Click the links below to explore.
Oh, and it doesn’t have to be Christmas for you to enjoy these stories (just like it doesn’t have to be Christmas to enjoy Harry Potter).
